| Description | Egypt Minister of Supply & Home Trade has invited Egyptian private sector to contribute (obviously under B.O.T.) in the since long announced scheme to build 50 grain silos of 30,000 tons capacity each involving L.E. 1.5 billion + investments. Scheme aims at stopping L.E. 100 million + / year waste incurred during the transport and handling of grains. He revealed that DANIDA of Denmark has committed to finance the foreign currency component for 10 silos under a soft loan free of interest for payment over 10 years. Also OPEC Fund has committed to finance the said component for further 10 silos. The Minister has invited Egyptian private sector to contribute in the building & operation of the remaining 30 silos (obviously under B.O.T.). Statements of the Minister followed his talks with Chairmen of several national banks, including Mr. Mohamed Barakat of Banque Misr, to encourage them to contribute in the scheme financing. The Minister assured that grain silos business is very profitable & that GASC – General Authority for Supply Commodities, would guarantee the operation of silos all over the year. |
