| Description | Egypt plans to double the number of CDMA based wireless telephone lines & networks, particularly at rural areas, involving the erection of up to 10 million lines [ worth almost $ 1 billion ] in few years. At present the Ministry of Communication & IT is soliciting companies to install in 2005 some 500,000 wireless telephone lines at rural areas worth $ 50 million. Earlier in 2004 the Ministry has contracted two Chinese companies to install 100,000 such lines in rural areas. Media reports indicated that an Egyptian Consortium has recently expressed interest to contribute to the above CDMA wireless telephone networks plan in cooperation with an international specialized company. |
