Kuwaiti MTC – Mobile Telecom Co. has revealed plans to invest up to $ 300 million till the end of 2005, more than 50 % of which to be effected in Iraq. Deputy Director General of the Company, Mr. Khaled Al Hajeri, attributed the measure to the absence of relevant infrastructure in Iraq & to the fact that everything need be built from scratch up. Media reports indicated that M.T.C. owns large stakes in M.T.C. - Vodafone Al Bahrain, in Fast Link of Jordan and in Ether in Iraq, apart of its taking over the management of one of the two mobile telephone operating companies in Lebanon. Mr. Al Hajeri announced his group targets to increase subscribers to its networks in the Middle East to 5 million by the end of 2005 and to 10 million by the end of 2008. At present, the company serves 2.8 million subscribers. |
