| Description |
Minister of Water Resources & Irrigation, Dr. Eng. Mahmoud Abu Zeid, has announced recently plans to privatize seven factories producing plastic pipes used in subsurface agricultural drainage networks. Ministry used to import the raw PVC to produce those pipes under funding from different donors. He added that other plans extend to privatize maintenance of drainage networks, now the responsibility of the Egyptian Public Authority for [Agricultural] Drainage by forming joint ventures grouping the authority & private investors, hence benefiting from the huge fleet of equipment [pipes laying machines] at the Authority required for such work. [The World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the European Investment Bank, the German Bank for Reconstruction - KfW and several other international financing institutions have already pledged huge soft finance to back Egypt irrigation & drainage revamping plans]. |
