$ 1 billion project was recently announced to build a power and water desalination station in Al Arish. The power station will have a design capacity of 1,200 MW with a major portion of the electricity output planned to be exported via power transmission lines to Palestine Authority and Israel. As regards to the desalinated water part of it would be exported to Gaza strip. Unnamed sources quoted in the Israeli media indicated that EIB – European Investment Bank would raise part finance to the project similar to earlier finance packages extended to Midor refinery and the natural gas pipeline project to pump Egyptian natural gas to Israel. |
