Egypt cement production during the first 4 months of 2005 were put at 9.7 million tons with local consumption during the period put at 8.7 million tons. Meanwhile exports during the period were estimated at 1.3 million tons obviously below last year levels. Positive was the growth of cement local consumption, said to have increased to 11 million tons during the first 5 months of 2005, up from 9.8 million tons during the same period of 2004 marking 12.2 % growth. A report issued by the Ministry of Investment indicated that local cement prices in Greater Cairo Governorates now range L.E. 267 to L.E. 282 per ton, inclusive of transport fees. Similar prices were reported for Alexandria Governorate. Same report indicated that prices in Assuit now range L.E. 270 to L.E. 300 per ton (also inclusive of transport fees). Meanwhile observers and analysts predicted new cement mills now under implementation in the Gulf and in other Arab countries would affect, by mid 2006, Egypt cement exports to decline by about 13.7 %. |
