A study prepared by Assuit Cement Co., quoted in the media, has predicted Saudi & Iranian cement exports to compete tangibly with Egypt cement exports in the next years. On his side Egypt Minister of Investment has recently released a summary of installed capacities at 11 cement companies totaling 36.4 million at present and projected the figure to increase to 41.2 million tons by the year 2008 and stabilize at that level till 2010. N.B. It is obvious that the study was restricted to presently existing cement mills not taking into consideration three new projects announced over the past few months of which two planned by Egyptian business groups and one by the NSPO – National Service Projects of the Armed Forces. On the other hand cement export projections over the next 5 - 10 years should take into consideration huge reconstruction schemes awaited in Iraq, southern Sudan, Palestine, Tsunami harmed countries in the Far East, not to overview multibillion tourist and real estate development schemes in the Gulf area particularly in the UAE. |
