| Description | In a one page full press release published in the media directing a thanks word to President Moubarak for visiting Beni Swef Cement Co. SAE, the French Greece La Farge/ Titan Egypt Alliance has presented a brief evaluation of the country cement sector performance over the past 6 years. The Alliance is the owner of both Beni Swef Cement Co. & Alexandria Portland Cement Co. The Alliance has stressed 5 major facts in its evaluation covering the years 1999 - 2004 including: (a) Industry annual design capacity increased from 24 million tons to 35 million tons, (b) Industry annual local consumption declined from 27.5 million tons to 23.5 million tons, (c) average cement price declined from $ 55 per ton to $ 42 per ton, (d) cement imports diminished from 4 million tons in 1999 (now Nill) & (e) cement exports increased from Nill in 1999 to 11.5 million tons in 2004. Worth indicating is that the Alliance investments in Egypt are put at $ 350 million in Beni Swef (1.5 million tons/ year) & $ 330 million in Alexandria (1.7 million tons/ year). |
