| Description | Highly valued potable water projects along the North West Coast & in Matrouh are on a tough race to back ambitious tourist plans & projects in that area. Egypt Minister of Housing & Utilities, Dr. Eng. Mohamed Ibrahim Soliman, said the projects, scheduled for completion by summer 2005, involve L.E. 517 million investments. They include the operation of phase one of Al Alamein potable water station, scheduled for July 2005 to operate at 86,000 M3/ day capacity (to be later increased to 334,000 M3/ day) involving L.E. 180 million overall investments. By the same date another 130 Km long, 1,000 mm. diameter, water pipeline extending from Ras Al Hikma till Matrouh would be complete involving further L.E. 150 million investments. Projects further include other two potable water pipelines projects from Borgel Arab till the North Coast & from there to Al Hammam involving L.E. 57 million investments for completion by April 2005. The Minister revealed that Summer 2005 would also witness the operation of phase 3 extensions of Amriya potable water station to increase its capacity by 240,000 M3/ day reaching 560,000 M3/ day under L.E. 70 million. The later is complemented by a 30-Km long potable water pipeline extending from the station till the new booster station in Borgel Arab under L.E. 30 million investments. Media reports indicated that weekly progress reports on the entire above project are submitted to the Minister. N.B. worth indicating is that a similar volume of projects & investments is progressing to consolidate tourist projects in the Red Sea & Southern Sinai where similar ambitious tourist plans & schemes are progressing. |
